Air pollution is subject to complex air permit regulations that govern emissions such as particulates, hazardous air pollutants, nitrogen oxides, dioxins and furans and acid gases. Operating within established threshold limits requires integrated air pollution control (APC) systems to effectively manage both the process and the associated pollution abatement systems.

Air pollution control can be challenged by changes in air permitting requirements, interdependencies in the combustion or other upstream processes, and the range of technology solutions currently available in the market. And while APC systems are often linked to production processes, they often do not provide companies with any commercial benefits. As a result, APC solutions must provide reliable and effective control of air pollution at the lowest capital and operating cost possible.

Ramboll’s air pollution control specialists are internationally-recognized experts who specialize in engineering combustion, incineration and a variety of APC systems. Our team has decades of experience in the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of APC systems and offers a variety of technology solutions, including:

  • Direct- and indirect-fired rotary kilns
  • Direct-fired liquid waste incinerators
  • Gas phase combustion systems
  • Hazardous waste boilers
  • Venturi scrubbers
  • Packed beds
  • Wet electrostatic precipitators
  • Dry sorbent injection
  • Baghouses
  • Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR)

We support APC projects from start to finish as part of a client’s project team beginning with the initial Basis of Design (BOD) that defines performance criteria for the overall process solution. We use our proprietary Mass and Energy Balance (M&E) software to model numerous process scenarios that allow our clients to select a solution that best meets their project objectives. And following the BOD, our experts remain engaged in the design process ensuring both continuity and translation of the BOD through completion of the project, including commissioning of the APC system.
