Following an initial flooding and drainage assessment undertaken in 2008, we prepared a flood alleviation scheme for the Swindon Village Primary School site in Cheltenham. The scheme includes the comprehensive use of sustainable drainage measures and has resulted in greater flood resilience for the site and its neighbours.Gloucestershire had suffered heavy rainfall followed by extensive flooding and flash floods in 2007, to the extent of a 1 in 100 year flood event. The primary school, which is located in a low spot, suffered badly. This project addresses odour problems adjacent to the tidal inlet at Carina Bay Reserve, Sydney. The site has a complex history, mangroves were infilled and various dredging works were undertaken in the 1970’s. There is no record of these works and the fill was likely to have been contaminated with acid sulfate soils.

As part of the development of a new town, the Vuores Central Park seamlessly combines stormwater management with creating new recreational spaces and protection of the existing natural watershed. A new signature town square brings the park into the city heart and creates space for multi-functional community uses.
Zollhallen Plaza is a new counterpart for the historic customs hall which was restored in 2009. The plaza is a fine example of water sensitive urban design, as it is disconnected from the sewer system. Beautiful planters provide infiltration points, and subsurface gravel trenches with innovative in-built filter medium reduce the hydraulic overload on the sewer system. Indented plaza areas create a surface flood zone. No rain water is fed to the sewer system, instead the ground water table is recharged.

Restoring the streams of the Alling Valley in Jutland to their natural course will raise the water level across the entire 525 hectare area, thereby increasing the biological and recreational values of the Valley.
A means to succeeding with implementation of cloudburst plans for the municipalities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg is the use of SUDS (Sustainable Drainage Systems) for infiltration of rainwater. The purpose of the project was to evaluate the consequences of increased storm water infiltration to the surrounding areas, including changes in groundwater levels and quality.
Restoring these 10 km of water course running through Copenhagen will have a significant positive impact on the natural value of the stream, creating an improved environment for local fauna and flora, as well as enhancing water quality.
