Every Challenge Has a Backstory

A massive, 25-year undertaking, the remediation and restoration of the Onondaga Lake Superfund Site is one of the largest and most complex remediation programs in the US.

Ramboll has served and continues to perform many roles as a strategic partner in the program, providing program management, site investigations, design, remediation, natural resource restoration and operations and maintenance.

Focus on Solutions

Having achieved many notable milestones to date, the program has included remediation of 15 former manufacturing and waste disposal sites encompassing over 1,500 acres, removal and consolidation of over 2 million cubic yards of contaminated lake sediments and treatment of over 3.5 billion gallons of water.

Results that Matter

Once considered one of the most polluted lakes in the US, Onondaga Lake and the surrounding watershed is again home to more than 110 species of fish, birds and mammals that have returned to restored habitats. Over 1.1 million plants, trees and shrubs are being planted, and more than 50 acres of wetlands have been created or enhanced and are now attracting mink, beaver, wild turkey, bald eagles, northern pike and largemouth bass, among others.
