Every Challenge Has a Backstory
A major US energy technologies company provides advanced grid systems that are powering gigawatts of renewable energy globally and enhancing the performance and reliability of power networks in more than a dozen countries. A leader in the superconductor market, producing 80 percent of the wire that’s used worldwide, the power technologies company sought a better way to produce superconductor wire to support today’s dynamic energy applications.
Focus on Solutions
Ramboll’s thermal process engineers developed a concept for a new type of furnace that would expand the manufacturer’s capacity to meet current and future production needs. With a workable design concept in place, Ramboll built a laboratory scale model to demonstrate system performance capabilities. Once testing was complete, equipment designers, process and controls engineers and fabricators produced two full-scale furnaces that were shop tested and delivered to our client.
Results that Matter
The new equipment improved process repeatability and increased production capacity, allowing our client to process superconducting wire at a cost-competitive price.
