Every Challenge Has a Backstory
Power Reliability and Resiliency: High energy density advanced batteries will play a major role in modernizing the nation’s electric grid and are essential to meeting the nation’s energy needs and keeping power secure during catastrophic weather events. A Fortune 50 corporation turned to Ramboll to scale-up the manufacturing and commercialization of these high energy density advanced batteries.
Focus on Solutions
Focus on the Client’s Aggressive Schedule Requirements: Ramboll led the fast-track conversion of a 200,000-square-foot former gas turbine manufacturing facility to a state-of-the art, R&D, manufacturing and business-unit headquarters. This conversion, in support of the client’s aggressive product launch schedule, was accomplished in just 24 months.
Ramboll designed the space using building information modeling (BIM) and 3D modeling of manufacturing cells that allowed visualization of process equipment and building interaction to optimize material movements and process flow. Modular systems were used to provide flexible areas that could be easily modified to adapt to changes in the process configuration. Ramboll took advantage of the 80-foot building height that was originally needed to accommodate the gas turbine process. Through the creative use of this height, the team constructed new utility and office spaces above the manufacturing floor.
Results that Matter
The $150 million program included a compete deconstruction and renovation of the 200,000-square-foot facility, resulting in a 350,000-square-foot modern plant; scale-up of production processes from 30,000 to over 1,000,000 cells per year; and construction of new high-tech research and testing labs.
