Ramboll assessed a number of formerly prepared concept alternatives of LNG import, reviewed the Klaipeda harbour location and vicinity, and derived a project proposal based on the use of floating storage and regasification of LNG.
Grounding the Lithuanian gas market
Klaipedos Nafta operates one of the most modern terminals in Europe located in the port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, a strategic area that opens land routes to the most important industrial regions of East-European countries.
Establishing the vital paths
As preparation for the planning, design and construction of a LNG import facility in the port of Klaipeda, Ramboll established a road map describing the process and necessary steps.
The services covered cost and time estimates, including identification of critical paths of completion within the given time frame. Additionally, different LNG import concepts and locations were identified, described and assessed. Finally, capacity considerations regarding the existing connecting gas grid and the compliance with European regulation on security of supply were also annexed to the report.
Great value for the end-users
The deliverables handed in by Ramboll were used by the client as background knowledge for tendering the engineering of the terminal.
The finalisation of the LNG terminal will have great potential for Lithuania, opening up the possibility to independently meet the demand of natural gas within the home market.
