Restoring the wetlands and stream of the Kastbjerg Valley will significantly improve the natural environment of this Natura 2000 area, and will help to protect rare plants and fish stocks.

Ramboll is responsible for the preparation of detailed project and tender documents for the nature rehabilitation of a 535 hectare area in the Kastbjerg Valley at Mariager Fjord.

The Kastbjerg Valley is a designated Natura 2000 area, being an unusually rich and natural type of wetland hosting rare plant species.

The Kastbjerg Valley is part of the Mariager Fjord nature protection plan, which again is part of the national water and nature action planning programme. The project comprises of the maintenance and expansion of wetland areas, with additional emphasis on the restoration of many of Kastbjerg river's tributaries.

The restoration of the tributaries includes the improvement of conditions for river fauna, such as that of trout spawning and regeneration. The detailed planning includes elaborating on a dynamic river model for the Kastbjerg river valley and its tributaries, so the project's impact studies are based on this.

This project also includes implementation management, and the execution of supervision in connection with the rehabilitation works.
