The BESTSELLER group builds a new 50,000 m2 logistics center near Haderslev in Southern Denmark to handle the distribution of BESTSELLER products for all of Europe. The project is Ramboll’s first fully integrated industry project where stock logistics, project and construction management, tender documents  for machinery, building and facility design, as well as sustainability are unified in one project.

The logistics consultancy company LogiConsult that Ramboll acquired in 2008 has brought along the contact to the BESTSELLER project. It was exactly the vision of linking logistics consultancy with Ramboll’s palette of consultancy services for industry that was the background for Ramboll’s acquisition of LogiConsult. With the BESTSELLER project the first step is taken.

Product distribution for all BESTSELLER shops in Europe

The BESTSELLER logistics centre will be placed by the E45 motorway exit near Haderslev and will handle the logistics of goods from productions in Asia, Turkey and Italy for further distribution to BESTSELLER stores across Europe. Every day approximately 50,000 pallets are handled. Around 150 employees will be expected to work at the logistics center in the first phase of the project.

A leading position within logistic consultancy

“This is the first project where Ramboll provides a fully integrated consultancy service with stock logistics and facility design including warehouse management system (WMS) as the software that runs the entire stock. We assist in the entire execution phase with supervision and project coordination of BESTSELLER, machine supplies and contractors. And we are confident that we can apply similar concepts in many other companies,” says Project Manager Thorkild Brinch Lindquist.

“This project manifests Ramboll’s industry concept. Naturally, we are very satisfied with the collaboration with BESTSELLER and it is my definite impression that Ramboll has a leading position especially within logistics consultancy services in Denmark compared to other consultancy companies. We bring all of Ramboll’s competencies into play in this project”.

Archaeological findings on site

One of the biggest challenges of the project is the finding of archaeological traces of settlements and houses from around year 0 BC to year 500 AD on the 63 hectare site.

“A large archaeological investigation is carried out with 30 museum employees excavating the site until spring 2010 to avoid delaying the building process more than necessary,” says Thorkild Brinch Lindquist.

Sustainability offset

“Sustainability is a core part of the project. It is important for BESTSELLER to have a holistic sustainability profile covering all areas of the organisation, from economic viability and Corporate Social Responsibility to environmental and climatic sustainability. We have used the BREEAM model (the environmental assessment method for buildings around the world) as our sustainability offset for the project”.
