Mary Sorensen has more than 25 years of global experience in ecology, ecotoxicology, ecological risk assessment (ERA), site investigation and remediation, environmental impact assessment, net environmental benefits analysis (NEBA), ecosystem services assessment, and risk management decision making for the protection of ecological resources. Her experience includes the scoping, planning and execution of investigation approaches and risk assessment strategies that are scaled appropriately for environmental decision making. Mary is also directly involved in designation of remedial goals, oversight for remediation and restoration for numerous projects around the world. Mary has decades of experience managing investigation and risk assessment for US Department of Defense munitions facilities and propellant manufacture facilities. She also has expertise in the investigation, assessment and remediation of a variety of chemicals, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) mixtures, metals (including selenium, arsenic and mercury), dioxin/furans, PCBs, explosives (HMX, RDX, TNT, DNT, nitrocellulose), and propellants (ammonium perchlorate). She also serves as a litigation expert on a variety of projects with natural resource liabilities. Mary was co-editor and co-author of the book entitled Population Level Ecological Risk Assessment (2008), which involved contributions of 40 scientists from 10 countries. She served as chair of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) Global Ecological Risk Assessment Advisory Group from 2005-2012; in this role she co-chaired or co-chaired six international workshops on ecological issues in Europe, the US and Canada.
