Barry McAvoy is a Director within the Building Services Group of Ramboll in the UK. He joined the company as a Senior Engineer in 2007, and became a Director in 2015.

Barry is a Chartered Engineer and has worked in the industry for over 20 years. He has extensive experience in the design and specification of electrical systems for a variety of local and international projects; overseeing team management on a variety of multi-sector projects, and multi-discipline engineering staff.

He is a pragmatic and resourceful professional, who takes responsibility for the leadership and good management of fellow colleagues by leading by example to achieve success.

Barry has excellent practical knowledge of Building Services Engineering with particular expertise in spatial coordination of all design aspects, electrical technology and lighting design. With energy issues becoming an ever more global concern, Barry is conscious of how good engineering design can be fully utilised to reduce carbon emissions and promote energy efficient buildings.

Barry knows the importance of maintaining excellent relationships with clients and understanding their key drivers for stakeholder expectations and benefit realisation. Since joining Ramboll, Barry has worked on numerous high profile projects in all sectors from residential, commercial, retail, education, heritage, sports, healthcare and aviation.

Recently he has been based in the Middle East, to bolster our operations and growth in the region with business development for the global hotel market sector.

Recent projects

The Mersey Gateway - six lane toll bridge

Ramboll has played a significant role in the Mersey Gateway project, the central feature of the significant highway improvements between the M56 and Speke Road. It is a new six-lane cable-stayed tolled bridge across the Mersey Estuary between Runcorn and Widnes.

Llantysilio Chainbridge restoration

Thought to contain the oldest wrought iron chain links in the world, this bridge project has transformed a derelict and unsafe site into a safe, functional structure that is a major tourist attraction.
